Zij hebben meer dan vijfentwintig studioalbums uitgebracht, waaronder de klassiekers Exile on Main St., Goats Head Soup, Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed en Sticky Fingers. In 2016 bracht de band het album Blue & Lonesome uit.
De band bestaat sinds 2021 nog uit drie vaste leden: Mick Jagger (zang), Keith Richards (gitaar) en Ron Wood (gitaar). De bekendste oud-leden zijn multi-instrumentalist Brian Jones (uit de band gezet op 8 juni 1969 en op 3 juli 1969 overleden), gitarist Mick Taylor (opgestapt in 1974), bassist Bill Wyman (opgestapt in 1993), drummer Charlie Watts (overleden op 24 augustus 2021) en – hoewel alleen in de beginjaren officieel – toetsenist Ian Stewart.
