Belinda

Belinda is a feminine given name of unknown origin, apparently coined from Italian bella, meaning "beautiful". Alternatively it may be derived from the Old High German name Betlinde, which possibly meant "bright serpent" or "bright linden tree". Belinda is a feminine given name of uncertain origin, commonly interpreted as meaning "bright serpent" (from Germanic Betlindis) or "beautiful" (associated with Italian bella and Spanish). It gained popularity in the 18th century and is often associated with elegance and grace. Popular, yet classic, it is known through literature, such as Alexander Pope's The Rape of the Lock.
